R&D - Variety Creation

The bread wheat varieties offered to farmers by our company are the result of long and arduous processes.

Our variety creation process, from hybridization to registration, encompasses 10–14 years of work.  Hybridization is followed by early stage selection, and continues with middle-stage selection processes in which genetic clarification and purity is achieved. This involves almost 7 years of work.

After achieving genetic purity, the variety’s resistance to disease and pests is identified, and the properties that are of economic and ecological importance for our country are evaluated in the selection process, which takes around 3 years. Plants that pass this selection process are subject to a further 2 years of intensive selection related to yield and quality.

The varieties chosen for their yield and quality are evaluated in terms of their ability to adapt to the target production areas for about 2 years. A registration request is made for the selected candidate varieties upon the culmination of these studies.

Registration trials take 2–3 years. Candidate varieties that are deemed successful in the registration trials are registered, provided that they have also passed the trials ensuring their uniformity and purity.

The next step is the seed production of this new variety. Following registration, the next stage involves the production of “Breeder Seeds”, from which pre-basic seeds are produced. In the following year, the basic seeds are obtained from pre-basic seeds, and after that, certified seeds are obtained from the basic seeds and placed on the market for the use of farmers.

All of our varieties have successfully completed all of these stages, and are now serving our agriculture sector and the people of our country.
